Happy April Fools Day! (Is that how it’s said?)

So, I’m searching the internet, trying to find something snappy I can post regarding April Fools day.  (For those who are not from the United States its celebrated on April 1st.)  As it turns out, no one is certain how this popular celebration began.  There are several ideas but they all come with a  reason why it isnt likely the entire explaination.  Which somehow seems very fitting for this “holiday”, which isn’t a holiday.

In my searching I did come across: The Top 100 April Fool’s Day Hoaxes of All Time
As judged by notoriety, creativity, and number of people duped.  Click on the title above or the article below to read the other 99.

spaghetti harvest1957: The respected BBC news show Panorama announced that thanks to a very mild winter and the virtual elimination of the dreaded spaghetti weevil, Swiss farmers were enjoying a bumper spaghetti crop. It accompanied this announcement with footage of Swiss peasants pulling strands of spaghetti down from trees. Huge numbers of viewers were taken in. Many called the BBC wanting to know how they could grow their own spaghetti tree. To this the BBC diplomatically replied, “place a sprig of spaghetti in a tin of tomato sauce and hope for the best.”

LONESTAR at Tuacahn Saturday, April 30th

LONESTAR to perform at Tuacahn

LONESTAR to perform at Tuacahn, Click to order Tickets

Saturday, April 30, 2011
8:00 PM MST

Michael Britt, Cody Collins,  Keech Rainwater, Dean Sams

Chalk it up to their Texas-meets-Tennessee grit and tenacity, but there’s nothing Lonestar loves more than a challenge: 500 concerts in their first two years, crossing over from country to pop and back again after no one else had topped both charts at the same time since 1983, selling 10 million albums, landing ten Top 10 country hits and collecting nine Top 10 pop hits, packing audiences with guys who love their rocking shows and ladies who swoon over the romantic hunks. That’s just the kind of hard work that fuels the band.

Lonestar has sold more than 10 million albums and landed ten number one country hits as well as nine Top 40 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. Their numerous hits include “I’m Already There,” “Come Cryin’ To Me” and their smash, “Amazed,” which spent eight weeks at the number one spot on the country charts as well as reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100. This dual win made them the first country act since Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton’s “Islands In the Stream” in 1983 to accomplish this career milestone. But the band makes it clear that they are still growing. “After everything we’ve been through, we’re still trying new things,” says Michael Britt. “We’re still growing as artists, and we’re able to be creative in addition to having the wealth of success and experience that we’ve achieved – that’s what sets us apart.”

Snow Canyon – Utah State Park

Sand Dunes at Snow Canyon State Park

Sand Dunes at Snow Canyon State Park

Snow Canyon State Park

Red Navajo sandstone, capped by an overlay of black lava rock, makes photography, hiking, biking and camping in Snow Canyon State Park a double treat. Contrary to its name, at an elevation of 3,200 feet, winter visitors will rarely find any snow at this 7,400-acre desert park. Named after Lorenzo and Erastus Snow, early Utah leaders, Snow Canyon offers 16 miles of hiking trails, technical rock climbing, horseback riding, year-round camping, nature studies, wildlife viewing, and photographic opportunities galore. Early spring and fall use of the park is especially appealing due to southern Utah’s moderate winter climate. Two recent volcanic cones are found near the head of the canyon.

All of this is set against a stunning backdrop of towering sandstone cliffs in red and white, and peaks and valleys of jumbled black lava rock interspersed with serpentine sandy washes.

Park History
Created in 1958, Snow Canyon has a long history of human use. Anasazi Indians inhabited the region from A.D. 200 to 1250, utilizing the canyon for hunting and gathering. Paiute Indians used the canyon from A.D. 1200 to the mid-1800s. Mormon pioneers discovered Snow Canyon in the 1850′s while searching for lost cattle. Modern-day the canyon has been the site of Hollywood films such as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Electric Horseman, and Jeremiah Johnson. Originally called Dixie State Park, it was later renamed for Lorenzo and Erastus Snow, prominent pioneering Utah leaders.

Broadway West Theater performs “1776″

1776 - Performed at Dixie High SchoolBook by  Peter Stone
Music by  Sherman Edwards
Lyrics by  Sherman Edwards
Based on a concept by Sherman Edwards

Two Acts, Book Musical, Rated G

American history blazes to vivid life in this unconventional Broadway hit. It’s the summer of 1776 and the nation is ready to declare independence…if only the founding fathers can agree! “1776″ follows John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Richard Henry Lee, and Thomas Jefferson as they attempt to convince the members of the second Continental Congress to vote to free their fledgling nation from the shackles of the British monarchy by signing the Declaration of Independence.

Involving a sizeable, largely male ensemble with no chorus, the show features a striking score by Sherman Edwards, which is modest in its vocal requirements, and a book by Peter Stone, which is legendary in its craftsmanship. “1776″ is a funny, insightful and compelling drama that puts a human face on the pages of history!

1776 Presented in the Dixie High School Theater, just over one mile from Best Western Coral Hills.
