Fishing in Southern Utah

Fishing in Southern Utah

Fishing in Southern Utah

There are plenty of great spot to fish in Southern Utah.  The best, most current information regarding licensing, the conditions for reservoirs, lakes, and rivers can be found on the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources website.  They also have a downloadable fishing guide FREE for the regions of Utah State.

2012 Utah Fishing Guidebook

2012 Utah Fishing Guidebook

 Quail Creek:
Great place for large mouth bass and rainbow trout.  The bass is typically found on the west and north shorelines.

 Sand Hollow Reservoir:
This is the place for you especially if you like large mouth bass.   Bluegills seem to have disappeared.

Gunlock Reservoir:
Bass are looking strong on the west bank.  Fishing is even better with a boat.  All boats now have to be treated for quagga mussels.

Some other good spots to fish include:  Sandove Reservoirs, Baker Reservoir (huge brown trout), Enterprise Reservoir (upper large rainbows), and Otter Creek Reservoir

Ivins Fitness Festival

Ivins Fitness Festival 2012

The Ivins Fitness Festival is an event that came into being because UNITY Park is the official viewing location for the bicycle portion of Ironman St. George, in fact, the original Ironman course was changed so that the race would come into Ivins. On Saturday, May 5, when Ivins City hosts the third annual Ivins Fitness Festival, we plan to focus more on the riders and supporting them and cheering them than we have in the past. We are planning to bring all of our activities, vendors, entertainment and music closer to the participants so that they know that people are there supporting them in this incredible physical feat they are involved in.

Schedule of Events:

6:30 a.m. – Free 4 Mile Fun Run – this is a true fun run, no t-shirts or timing just running for the health of it. There will be refreshments for all runners. We still need you to register if you plan to run.

9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.– Activities in the park will include: watching riders as they fly by, demonstrations by former Biggest Loser contestants, Tennis Demonstrations, Free Throw competition, Two Ball tournament, bounce house, slides, climbing wall, healthy vendors and food.

See site for road closure/traffic information:  http://www.ivins.com/home/festivalscelebrations-a-events

IRONMAN, St. George, Utah 2012

This is the last year for a full Ironman in St. George, Utah.  Hereafter the event will become an Ironman 70.3.  The main two reasons cited have been first the early date in the Ironman season leaves little time to train for the event.  This is compounded by the St. George course being among one of the most challenging in the world.   St. George LOVES the Ironman event and are looking forward to the continued partnership.  Good luck athletes.

From the Ironman Website:

Ironman 70.3 St. George 2013

For those staying with the Best Western Coral Hills we now have a full hot breakfast and it will be served the day of the race at 3:30am.  We will also have information available at the front office regarding road closures and area activities and events.  Welcome, welcome back and have a safe and wonderful race!

Encore! Brian Regan Returns to Tuacahn

Brian Regan returns to Tuacahn Thursday – Saturday, May 10-12, 2012 8:00pm

Brian Regan Returns to Tuacahn near St. George, UT

American’s favorite comedian returns to Tuacahn by popular demand!

Critics and peers agree: Brian Regan has distinguished himself as one of the premier comedians in the country. The perfect balance of sophisticated writing and physicality, Brian fills theaters nationwide with fervent fans that span generations.

Releasing two critically acclaimed hour Comedy Central specials and DVD’s in as many years–2008′s “The Epitome of Hyperbole,” and 2007′s “Brian Regan Standing Up”–Brian has set a standard of excellence that others continually try to follow.

Brian’s non-stop theater tour has visited more than 80 cities each year since 2005 and continues through 2012. It is the quality of his material, relatable to a wide audience and revered by his peers, which continues to grow Brian’s fan base. In March Brian broke the record for the most consecutive shows by a comedian at Abravanal Hall in Salt Lake City with five sold out performances. The previous record was four shows set by Jerry Seinfeld in 2005.

With his first appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman in 1995, Brian solidified his place on the show and has now made more than 20 appearances. He also includes regular visits with Conan O’Brien on his schedule.

Tickets can be purchased directly with Tuacahn or packaged through Best Western Coral Hills for a discount on your room.

Riders of the Purple Sage at Tuacahn

Riders of The Purple Sage perform at Tuacahn
Riders of The Purple Sage

Thursday, April 26, 2012 8:00pm  $15.50-$24.50

Hold onto your hats as CODY BRYANT and the RIDERS OF THE PURPLE SAGE ride in Southern Utah for an encore performance. Mixing laughter, tight harmonies, delightful orchestrations and excellent musicianship. These gifted artists together with the SOUTHWEST SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA, will provide a fast paced experience for a promised evening of unforgettable melodies of cherished songs, and classic western music at its finest. Don’t miss this one!  Campfire yes, sleepy no.
The phrase “Riders of the Purple Sage” is borrowed from the title of a Zane Grey novel published in 1912. In 1932 Jack Dalton put together a band under the name and achieved regional success on KFI radio in Los Angeles. They had two good years then disbanded in 1934. In 1942 Foy Willing put together his own Riders of the Purple Sage for the Hollywood Barn Dance Radio Show, soon achieving national success in films, radio, and live performance. He did over 20 western movies and recorded on four major labels.

In 2003 Sharon Willing urged Cody Bryant to carry on the name and lead a new version of the Riders. Cody and his band perform under the banner today.
Music festivals, corporate retreats, and concert houses thrill to the high energy and enthusiasm the Riders of the Purple Sage bring to every show. They’re fearless in taking their music to new venues and a public that’s largely forgotten Roy Rogers and Gene Autry. Every show proves the magic of the Los Angeles cowboy sound is as powerful today as it was back when they shared the screen with Roy Rogers, Dale Evans and the ever charismatic Monte Hale.
