Snow Records for St. George, Utah, 3rd highest on record.

Snow Records, here are the top four snow days:

The 1-day snowfall records for St. George are:
1st 1894 15”
2nd 1974 10”
3rd 1919 8” the next day received another 8” for a total of 16”
3rd 2013 8”
All over St. George there are scenes occurring which are not often seen.  First, the more obvious, there is white stuff all over everything.  After some research it was determined that indeed it was snow….and staying.  This conclusion was reached due to the freezing air temperature, cars sliding on the road, children sledding down hillsides and a multiplicity of what looks to be snowmen and snow forts doting the city.  Even ice cycles have appeared overnight.

There can be a snowfall about once, maybe twice, a year and typically it is gone within hours or by the end of the next day.  It certainly is a pretty site however when viewed from atop any of the area hillsides.

Check this link for more information and stories regarding the snow from St. George News.

Nutcracker performed by St. George Ballet this Dec 12-14, 2013

William F. Christensen presented the first full length production of The Nutcracker Ballet in the United States in 1944. In kind of Bene` Arnold and Florence Christenson, the St. George Ballet Company has established his original choreography in Act I, scenes 1 & 2 as a part of their Nutcracker. Grown-ups and children will delight in seeing the mice and soldiers in battle before Clara continues into the Snow Kingdom and the Land of the Sweets to visit the Sugar Plum Fairy. Dancers from around the world entertain the Nutcracker Prince and Clara along with bringing smiles to the faces of all involved.

The St. George Ballet Company in association with Westside Studio of Performing Arts, under the direction of Sheila Bailey, with assistants Bene’ Arnold, Amber Shakespeare and Deborah Dawn, has enjoyed putting on the annual production of The Nutcracker Ballet for 12 Christmas seasons in southern Utah. Many families have made attending The Nutcracker a part of their Christmas tradition.

The cast features over 120 local dancers who will be sharing the stage with professional dancers Erica Bryce dancing Sugar Plum Fairy with Troy McGee her cavalier.  We welcome our own local master artist, Roy Fitzell playing Drosselmeyer.

Following Saturday’s matinee the children can attend Clara’s Party, “A Magical Journey”.  The party is held on stage meeting characters and cast, taking a trip through the Land of Sweets, sliding down the Mother Hubbard slide along with seeing behind the scenes operations of putting on the production. A craft and treat also make this a fun activity for all. Tickets for Clara’s Party are $8.00.

The St. George Ballet Company invites everyone to attend the full length Nutcracker Ballet.  The Nutcracker begins at 7:30 p.m. on December 12th, 13th and 14th at Desert Hills Theater. A matinee performance is on December 14th at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are available at westsidestudio.org/tickets or call 674-9728.  Ticket prices are $20 and $15 for obstructed view.

We realize that music is an expression of art and we respect that. However, we often have families with children in the audience, we ask that you consider the material that you will be performing and be respectful in return.

Thanksgiving, St. George, Utah

Thanksgiving in St. George, Utah is a big event and very busy time of year.  With so many folks who have retired in our beautiful town it brings the rest of the family to town to visit the grandparents.  The other reason St. George gets so busy is because of the softball/baseball tournaments that are held over the weekend. And we usually have great weather too.

Happy Thanksgiving from all of us to all of you.  Please travel safe.  Below we have added several quotes regarding thanksgiving, gratitude and thankfulness.  May your holiday season be wonderful.

“Can you see the holiness in those things you take for granted–a paved road or a washing machine? If you concentrate on finding what is good in every situation, you will discover that your life will suddenly be filled with gratitude, a feeling that nurtures the soul.” — Rabbi Harold Kushner

“If you made a list of all the things you could be thankful for, the list would undoubtedly be longer than your misfortunes.” Catherine Pulsifer, from Many Blessings
