Located 60 miles from St. George it is located between Colorado City and Fredonia along the Arizona Route 389 and in the middle of the Kaibab Paiute Reservation.

Visitors are welcome to tour historic out-buildings and a scenic half-mile ridge trail at their own pace. A visitor center and museum shared by the National Park Service and the Kaibab Band of Paiute Indians offers an extensive array of high quality exhibits on Southern Paiute and pioneer culture and history.

The centerpiece of the monument is the old fort built by early settlers from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to protect the springs that gave the monument its name. Guides offer historic tours of the fort which has an interesting story intimately connected to the history of St. George.
