View the Solar Eclipse from Southern Utah

Image from: news.nationalgeographic.com

Sunday May 20th, thousands of people will be gathering in Southern Utah to view the spectacular sight of a solar eclipse.  The eclipse will begin at 6:22 PM and finish at 8:37 PM.  The annular will be visible from 7:31-7:36.

We want to make sure that all of our guests have a fun and safe experience, so we thought we’d share a few safety tips and options for viewing.

1.  Eclipse glasses are an inexpensive and safe way to view an eclipse.  Make sure the glasses have “CE” printed on them, showing that they are safety certified.  Visitors can order them online at www.rainbowsymphonystore.com/gensolecshad.html or pick them up at the Washington County BLM Office for FREE (first come, first served.)  Inspect your glasses for any damage before looking directly at the sun.  They can also be purchased for $2.00 athe th Southwest Vision Center on 700 South.

2.  If you are using a telescope filter, DO NOT use one that fits over the eye piece.  This can seriously damage your eyes.  Instead, be sure to use a filter that fits over the FRONT END of the telescope.  Devices such as binoculars and telescopes concentrate energy from the sun in a similar way to magnifying glasses.  (Picture the little pyromaniac child that tortures ants and burns leaves.)  So if you don’t want your eyes to suffer the same fate as those ants, make sure you are using a proper telescope filter.

3.  A number 14 welders glass can be used.  However, you should not layer glasses of smaller numbers that add up to 14.  A stack of two 7 glasses to does not provide the same protection as a 14 glass!

4.  The classic pinhole projection is a guaranteed safe way to view the eclipse.  Instructions for making one can be found at http://www.exploratorium.edu/eclipse/how.html.

No matter how you decide to view this amazing phenomenon, make sure you protect your eyes first and foremost…..

….And be sure you book your room with us soon, persons come from all over the United State and the world attend this event.

Ivins Fitness Festival

Ivins Fitness Festival 2012

The Ivins Fitness Festival is an event that came into being because UNITY Park is the official viewing location for the bicycle portion of Ironman St. George, in fact, the original Ironman course was changed so that the race would come into Ivins. On Saturday, May 5, when Ivins City hosts the third annual Ivins Fitness Festival, we plan to focus more on the riders and supporting them and cheering them than we have in the past. We are planning to bring all of our activities, vendors, entertainment and music closer to the participants so that they know that people are there supporting them in this incredible physical feat they are involved in.

Schedule of Events:

6:30 a.m. – Free 4 Mile Fun Run – this is a true fun run, no t-shirts or timing just running for the health of it. There will be refreshments for all runners. We still need you to register if you plan to run.

9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.– Activities in the park will include: watching riders as they fly by, demonstrations by former Biggest Loser contestants, Tennis Demonstrations, Free Throw competition, Two Ball tournament, bounce house, slides, climbing wall, healthy vendors and food.

See site for road closure/traffic information:  http://www.stgeorgeutah.com/news/archive/2012/05/04/ivins-fitness-festival-runs-for-fun-with-ironman/#.Uw6kd15aQpc

IRONMAN, St. George, Utah 2012

This is the last year for a full Ironman in St. George, Utah.  Hereafter the event will become an Ironman 70.3.  The main two reasons cited have been first the early date in the Ironman season leaves little time to train for the event.  This is compounded by the St. George course being among one of the most challenging in the world.   St. George LOVES the Ironman event and are looking forward to the continued partnership.  Good luck athletes.

From the Ironman Website:

Ironman St. George has become renowned as one of the most family-friendly races on the Ironman circuit, in part because of the many hiking areas and state parks around the area. Athletes have enjoyed their time in St. George over the years. 99% of the respondents in a post-race athlete survey gave St. George the highest possible rating, saying it was a “great place with friendly people,” while 86% considered the race to be “fabulous.” Three out of four of the athletes who have competed at the event say they’ll return for a vacation, while more than half said they’ll be back to train in the area.”

Ironman 70.3 St. George 2013

For those staying with the Best Western Coral Hills we now have a full hot breakfast and it will be served the day of the race at 3:30am.  We will also have information available at the front office regarding road closures and area activities and events.  Welcome, welcome back and have a safe and wonderful race!

Hairspray at Tuacahn

HairSpray at Tuacahn, near St. George, UT

For more than six years on Broadway and in the popular 2007 film adaptation, Hairspray delighted audiences the world over by transporting them to a candy-colored 1960’s Baltimore, where the 50’s are out—and change is definitely in the air. Now this throw-back to the classic musicals of yesterday comes to Tuacahn for the very first time.

Tracy Turnblad, the loveable plus-size heroine at the center of the story, has an unstoppable passion for dancing, and—much to her delight—she wins a spot on the local TV dance program, “The Corny Collins Show.” Virtually overnight she finds herself transformed from teenage outsider to local celebrity. But can this larger-than-life adolescent manage to defeat the program’s reigning princess, integrate the television show, and find true love (singing and dancing all the while, of course!) without mussing her hair?

Hairspray is a high-energy musical comedy featuring vibrant costumes, toe-tapping music, fabulous dance numbers, and a whole lot of heart. This award-winning musical homage to one of the greatest eras of American music will truly delight old and young alike.

Call dirct now for package rates that include the room and show tickets.
