Joseph_logo

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor® Dreamcoat

The Biblical saga of Joseph and his coat of many colors comes to vibrant life in this exciting musical which will entertain Tuacahn audiences of all ages.  Joseph, his father’s favorite son, is a boy blessed with prophetic dreams. When he is sold into slavery by his jealous brothers and taken to Egypt, Joseph endures a series of adventures in which his spirit and humanity are continually challenged. He is purchased by Potiphar where thwarting advances from Potiphar’s wife lands him in jail. When news of Joseph’s gift to interpret dreams reaches the Pharaoh, Joseph is well on his way to becoming second in command.

Eventually his brothers, having suffered greatly, unknowingly find themselves groveling at the feet of the brother they betrayed but no longer recognize. After testing their integrity, Joseph reveals himself leading to a heartfelt reconciliation of the sons of Israel. Set to an engaging cornucopia of musical styles, from country-western and calypso to bubble-gum pop and rock ‘n’ roll, this Old Testament tale emerges both timely and timeless.

The Wizard of Oz at Tuacahn

The Wizard of Oz at Tuacahn is absolutely AMAZING!  you must try to see this show.

See it as only Tuacahn can show it!

The Wizard of Oz

This musical adventure is a genuine family classic that made Judy Garland a star for her heartfelt performance as Dorothy Gale, an orphaned young girl unhappy with her drab  existence on her aunt and uncle’s dusty Kansas farm. Dorothy yearns to travel “over the rainbow” to a different world, and she gets her wish when a tornado whisks her and her little dog, Toto, to the colorful land of Oz. Having offended the Wicked Witch of the West, Dorothy is protected from the old crone’s wrath by the ruby slippers that she wears. At the suggestion of Glinda, the Good Witch of the North, Dorothy heads down the Yellow Brick Road to the Emerald City, where dwells the all-powerful Wizard of Oz, who might be able to help the girl return to Kansas. En route, she befriends a Scarecrow, a Tin Man, and a Cowardly Lion. The Scarecrow would like to have some brains, the Tin Man craves a heart, and the Lion wants to attain courage; hoping that the Wizard will help them too, they join Dorothy on her odyssey to the Emerald City.  But the arrival at the Emerald City only proves to be the beginning as an even greater adventure on Dorothy’s quests to return home.

Did you Know?  The main reason the Wizard of Oz is such a classic today is because it did not do well at the box office after two separate releases?  The Wizard of Oz was too expensive to post a large profit upon initial release; however, after a disappointing reissue in 1955, it was sold to network television, where its annual showings made it a classic.

Mary Poppins is a Walt Disney Theatrical musical based on the similarly titled series of children’s books by P. L. Travers and the 1964 Disney film. The musical features the film’s music and lyrics by the Academy Award winning Sherman Brothers, along with additional music and lyrics by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe that blend in beautifully with the original musical numbers.

The stage musical is a fusion of various elements from the film and the books. The practically perfect Mary Poppins arrives to nanny the Banks children and, with some help from the chimney-sweep, Bert, ends up turning the family’s world upside down.

Golden Dragon Acrobats return to St. George, Utah

Golden Dragon Acrobats are awe inspiring and a delight to see. Welcome back to the Cox Auditorium stage at Dixie State University, The Golden Dragon Acrobats hail from Cangzhou, Hebei province, in the People’s Republic of China and have toured the United States continuously since 1978. Its members are athletes, actors and artists who have studied and trained for their craft since early childhood. The group averages 200 performances each year and has toured through all 50 states and in over 65 countries across the world. In 2005, their Broadway debut and seven-week run at the New Victory… Show more Theater earned two prestigious New York Drama Desk Awards nominations (for Best Choreography and Most Unique Theatrical Experience).

The group’s founder, producer and artistic director, Danny Chang, is one of the world’s leading promoters of Chinese acrobatics. He began his training at the age of eight with his family’s acrobatic school in Taipei, and joined its touring wing, the Golden Dragon Acrobats, at age ten. He is the recipient of many awards, including the prestigious Medal for International Faith and Goodwill by the Republic of China’s Coordination Council for North American Affairs. In 1998, Chang restructured the Golden Dragon Acrobats to form Asian Artists Productions, Inc. (AAPI). While the new company continued to produce and tour the Golden Dragon Acrobats, AAIP expanded to create theatrically elaborate shows like Circo Magnifico, Dream, Pagoda, Cirque D’or and others, each for a specific US market.

Cirque Zíva is the latest of these shows, created in 2011 by AAPI in coordination with renowned lighting director Tony Tucci (American Ballet Theatre’s Configurations with Mikhail Baryshnikov; Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre; 1996 Summer Olympics Cultural Olympiad). The production ran for ten straight weeks (four weeks added by popular demand) at Asbury Park Boardwalk’s Paramount Theatre – the first-ever run held at the New Jersey venue in its more than 80-year history. Night after night Cirque Zíva earned critical acclaim, packed houses and standing ovations. With visual and technical innovations presented beautifully in centuries-old Chinese acrobatics, the show had grown to represent the best of AAPI and its brand of artistic merit, high production value, and solid commitment to cultural exchange. With that, AAPI began gearing the show for the road, and from January through May of 2013 the Golden Dragon Acrobats present the North American Premiere Tour of Cirque Zíva!

Utah Shakespeare Festival Extends Its Season

Located only 45 minutes north of St. George enjoy Tony Award winning theater!

Cedar City, UT – Today the Utah Shakespeare Festival announced that it is extending its current season due to the overwhelming interest from Festival guests and fans in the fall plays. Les Misérables, Hamlet and Stones in His Pockets will run one additional week, through October 27. In addition, the Festival has added new Monday evening performances of Les Misérables on October 1, 8, and 15.

According to Marketing Director Kami Terry Paul, this has been one of the most popular Festival seasons in history with over thirty-five consecutive sold out performances of Les Misérables this summer. “We are right on track to have a record breaking year in ticket sales, and we haven’t even opened Hamlet or Stones in His Pockets yet,” said Paul.

Les Misérables. Based on Victor Hugo’s classic novel, Les Misérables is an epic and uplifting story about the survival of the human spirit. It focuses on the struggles of ex-convict Jean Valjean as he searches for meaning, love, and redemption in nineteenth century France. The musical includes some of theatre’s most memorable songs: “I Dreamed a Dream,” “On My Own,” “Bring Him Home,” and “Do You Hear the People Sing,” among many others.

Hamlet. Perhaps the greatest play in the English language, Hamlet comes to the indoor Randall Theatre this year for a new look at William Shakespeare’s vision of murder, betrayal, family, love, and loss. The Festival’s 2012 telling of this classic tale will juxtapose Shakespeare’s beautiful and powerful language against the backdrop of an aging medieval castle being renovated by its modern residents (the upper echelon of the kingdom dressed in haute couture clothing). Written at the height of Shakespeare’s career, this powerful examination of the human psyche is his most mature, and chilling, revenge tragedy.

Stones in His Pocket, an audience favorite at the Festival, will return with David Ivers and Brian Vaughn once again playing a host of characters in this tragic, comic, and ultimately surprising tale of two Everymen. At turns hilarious and somber, touching and hugely entertaining, this play centers on Jake and Charlie—and the numerous roles they play onstage and in life. This two-man, fifteen character comedy/drama won raves in 2005 at the Festival and is back by popular demand. Next spring, the show will move as a shared production to Chicago’s Northlight Theatre where it will run from March 8 through April 14, 2013.

Les Misérables, Hamlet and Stones in His Pockets will run until October 27. Additional Monday evening performances of Les Misérables run on October 1, 8, and 15.
