S.R. 14, Cedar Breaks, Opens Memorial Day Weekend!

Today May 24th, S.R. 14 is finally opening to allow traffic through to Cedar Breaks abd Duck Creek Village.  The Southern Utah community has been looking forward to this since last October when a massive landslide wiped out 800 feet of the popular scenic roadway.

The road will not yet be paved so motorists will be traveling on road base (dirt/gravel) during this time. The road will open at 3:00pm on Thursday, May 24, and will remain open until 7:00am on Tuesday, May 29. After that time, the road will be closed during the day and opened each night from 7:00pm to 7:00am, except on Friday when the road will open at 5:00pm and remain open through the weekend until Monday at 7:00am. This will continue to be the schedule now through the month of July.

Thank you UDOT for moving all of that!

St. George Parade of Homes has Shuttle Service

St George Parade of Homes

WASHINGTON COUNTY – The St. George Area 22nd Annual Parade of Homes begins tomorrow.  The City of St. George and St. George Shuttle have collaborated to provide Tour Coach service to Paraders, in zones reaching all of the homes. Here’s what you need to know:

Tour Coaches (each seating 25-30 people) will run three times a day on Friday – Monday, Feb. 17-20, and again on Friday – Sunday, Feb. 24-26, departing at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m. from the former St. George Municipal Airport
located at 620 S. Airport Rd., in St. George.

The shuttle tickets cost $25 and are good for any days of the Parade that the service runs.

Service areas are divided into five zones, each taking about three hours to cover. Thus, logistically, two zones may be covered in a day.

Shuttle Tickets may be purchased and booked directly on the St. George Shuttle website, by telephone to St. George Shuttle at 435-628-8320, by visiting the St. George Shuttle office at 790 S Bluff St., St. George, or at the point of departure at the old airport.  They may also be purchased at the Red Cliffs Mall and any Lin’s Grocery store, where Parade Tickets are being sold.

Seating is subject to availability, so parading shuttlers are urged to purchase tickets and book their zones early and to arrive at least 15 minutes early of departure time.

Those with children 5 and younger must provide their own car seat / booster seat to ride, the seats may be left on the tour bus while visiting the homes.

Parade tickets cost $12.50 and go on sale this evening at the Red Cliffs Mall and Lin’s markets.  They can also be purchased anytime today and following at the St. George Shuttle office on Bluff Street.  Cost of parade tickets is separate from cost of the Shuttle’s coach tour service for the Parade.

The Dogfather will be vending hot dogs, chips and drinks at the tour’s point of departure at the old airport. Thus, shuttling paraders can grab a meal as they depart or shift coaches for a second zone.  Restrooms will also be available there.

Great information about the outdoors, beautiful pictures and occasionally there are opportunities to win trips to other natural wonders around the country and world.   Did you know there are typically 2-3 days each year that all national parks are free to the public?  Also during the slow season you can drive your car into Zion’s National Park without having to ride the tram system.  St. George is less than an hour away from the entrance.  If you’re paying attention you just may spot the ostrich farm on the right side of the road on your way there.

Welcome to Washington County in Southern Utah!

Recycling Binnies in St George, Utah

Recycling Binnies in St George, Utah

Recycling Program of Washington County

We live in a most remarkable and beautiful part of the world and we are striving to keep it that way for generations to come.

The WCSW Recycling Program (Washington County Solid Waste) is the 1st county wide recycling program in the history of southern Utah. This program will provide public drop off locations, approximately 40 sites, within Washington County where residents can drop off their paper, plastic, metal, and glass. Operational costs for this program are covered by residents’ trash removal fees. In turn, 100% of the commodity money will be given back to the cities and towns that make up Washington County for community projects.

Springdale, the town at the southern border of Zion National Park, is part of Washington County.  Please take advantage of this program prior to entering the park.

Recycling “Binnies” are located across the street from the Best Western Coral Hills behind the Washington County Building.

November 15th is America Recycles Day!  Celebrate by reducing your trash, a little effort DOES make A BIG difference.
